Though the Nosara area is blessed with dozens of restaurants and contains a veritable bounty of culinary choices, many of the dining establishments cater more to Western tastes. Guiones in particular has a wealth of eateries that offer everything from organic juice concoctions to fresh-baked quiche. This stands in stark contrast to the large majority of Costa Rican towns and cities that support only a few sodas run exclusively by and for the "tico tastebuds." In Guiones, one of the few restaurants that harkens back to more traditional Costa Rica fare is Dos Lorenas.
Dos Lorenas is situated on the main road that passes through Guiones, Pelada and Nosara. The massive, marble-floored dining area is ready to serve as many people as you can gather up in the Dos Lorenas dining room with open kitchen and bar areas. The menu serves up dozens of seafood and red meat favorites like lomito (tenderloin) pepper steak and dorado (mahi mahi) at a reasonable price. For between seven and thirteen dollars you can get anything on the menu except the lobster, which runs about twenty dollars. A Surfing Nosara favorite entrée is the Lomito Jalapeno, which, after an order of their excellent ceviche, gives you a Costa Rican surf and turf especial.
As with most Costa Rican traditional eateries, the most popular menu item is the casado. For six or seven dollars you get a full meal of rice, salad, fried plantains and your choice of meat. Dos Lorenas is known for their casados among Guiones residents and visitors to the Nosara area should definitely get familiar with the fish, chicken and steak casado as much as they can while they are enjoying the Costa Rican pura vida.
One of the largest grocerias in Guiones sits in the parking lot in front of the Dos Lorenas restaurant and is also called Dos Lorenas. Surfing Nosara crew usually find themselves at one of the Dos Lorenas at least a few times a week filling a grocery list or sitting down to a big plate of food. Save yourself a trip and enjoy dinner at Dos Lorenas restaurant after shopping for while at the Dos Lorenas groceria. Awake your hidden tico tastebuds with a trip to the Dos Lorenas compound.
