La Casona Restaurant and Bar Nosara, Costa Rica

Even though everybody knows this area as "Nosara," on a map it is actually a few communities scattered along the Pacific coast under one broad name – Nosara, Costa Rica. Most of the time, people come to Nosara but actually stay and play in Guiones or Pelada. However, with an awesome new airport and easy flights from Nature Air, more and more people are spending some time in the actual town of Nosara. One of the more well-known restaurants in the inland town of Nosara is called La Casona, and it is popular with locals and visitors alike.

La Casona is literally a home – it is a big open-air dining area built on the side of a family home. The kids who live there are sometimes watching TV or playing over to the side of the restaurant, and the food is made by the family. His does not mean that you can only eat what they are having for dinner – the menu is large and pretty inexpensive. Pizza is really popular at La Casona, and a large pizza big enough to feed four adults costs about 13 dollars. The ingredients are super fresh and, like most places in the Nosara area, the beer is always cold.

La Casona is a favorite of SurfingNosara.com and of Costa Ricans because it has a large seating area and room for large parties. The menu is diverse and affordable, with even filet mignon for about eleven dollars. Most menu items run about four or five dollars, and the plates are filled with the kind of food you would expect from a restaurant right next to somebody's house – local and fresh ingredients for not a lot of money. Surfing Nosara recommends at least one trip into the town of Nosara to eat some of the best pizza colones can buy.

The drive into Nosara takes you away from the beaches of Pelada and Guiones, but it is only about five minutes by car. Most people take a few trips into Nosara to get gas or shop at the Super Nosara groceria at some point during their trips, and Surfing Nosara recommends having a seat at one of the many tables at La Casona and getting a bite to eat. Pile into the car and grab a pizza fresh from the oven, or have a seat and look out over the mountains while your food is prepared fresh for you. La Casona is a Costa Rica original, and worth the short drive into Nosara.
