New Luxury Tax for Homeowners in Costa Rica

Hey guys, Andrew here.  Just a quick note to everyone who owns a home in Costa Rica:  a new luxury tax seems to have gone into affect.  It appears to involve homes that are over a value of $170,000 dollars, and from the research I've done, doesn't seem to affect raw land, but contact your attorney who helped you conduct your business here in Costa Rica.  It will be based on the amount you declared your property worth with the government.  It is possible that we'll see this new law challenged in the courts, but it will be the homeowners responsibility to keep up with this.

When looked at from a practical standpoint, this could be a good thing if the powers that be keep tabs on where the money will go.  We need money for infrastructure in this country, that is for certain, and it has to come from somewhere.  So in theory, this has the potential to be a good thing.  Keep your ears to the ground to follow this law, contact your attornies, and we'll try to keep up things for you as well and provide updates as they come.

See you in the water!
