About Gerardo Bolaños, Bringing new talents to the Surfing Nosara Foundation

In a few words, I'm all about sustainability, conservation, surfing, and peace!

I was born and raised in San José, studied biology after falling in love with sea turtles during conservation projects I volunteered with. After finishing university, I move to Guanacaste to work in sustainable tourism, specifically in a sea turtle protection project, for the Four Seasons Resort at Península de Papagayo.

I moved to Nosara in December 2008, and for 3,5 years worked for the Harmony Hotel's Sustainability Coordinator. Harmony Hotel is awarded with the CST (Certificate for Sustainable Tourism), and working there allowed me to develop a strong sense of community outreach and social sustainability. I was able to create, develop, support, and coordinate community benefit projects involving schools, directly and indirectly. During this period of time, I discovered and developed a passion about kids and environmental education that I just want to keep it going on, and further hopefully!

Joining the Surfing Nosara Foundation (SNF) for me provides me of an opportunity to go further, to have a bigger positive impact in Nosara, specially in the local schools. I'm very excited and willing to help SNF go beyond it already has, and I believe is the reason why I'm here.

I'm also actively involved in the Barri-Guiones Project (www.costasverdes.org), Blue Flag for Guiones and Pelada Beach Committee, and the Nosara Recycling Association, as well as in the Nosara Sostenible group.
