On Friday October 5th, the Colegio Bocas de Nosara, celebrated its Community Day.
Neighbors, members and workers of local businesses and associations, as well as students and parents were united since 7am to help our only public highschool to obtain the prestigious Bandera Azul Ecológica (Ecological Blue Flag Program), in the schools category.
Old car tires were re-used and painted to plant trees. A "Punto Ecologico" (a recycling station) was installed. The classroom desks and chairs were polished, and a whole building, bathrooms included, were painted and fixed. Lagarta Lodge (http://www.lagarta.com/) and the Surfing Nosara Foundation, throughout funds raised by iEducateCR (www.facebook.com/ieducatecostarica), an organization founded in Texas, donated the paint, as well as the materials to fix and build 10 bathrooms.

"Adopt a Blue Flag Program", a running local program created by Del Mar Academy co-founder Jessica Sheffield, dedicates to motivate and help the Nosara public schools to registered and obtain the Blue Flag. This is the second year in a row that public schools in Nosara are participating in order to obtain the national award. In 2011, both the Santa Marta and the Portal de Garza Schools obtained the blue flag, partly because of the Community Day on which many neighbors, students and parents came to those schools to make improvements and give it a happier, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly face to each.
On 2012, the Serapio Lopez, Santa Marta, La Esperanza, and the Colegio Bocas de Nosara registered in the program. In early September, the Serapio Lopez celebrated it's Community Day.
