Project Specs: Nosara public schools have no basic first aid or emergency supplies. There is a lack of knowledge on how to care for both basic and extensive wounds.
To Do: SNF is collaborating with Cruz Roja de Nosara to bring a four-hour first aid training course to each public school. All school administrators and teachers are encouraged to attend- and classes will be open to the public. Upon completion of the course, SNF will donate small first aid kits to each school. Nosara's Red Cross is willing to donate the courses to the community, but has no resources to provide printed literature or first aid supplies. We are now accepting donations of any and all first aid related materials, to be used in demonstration during training courses, as well as in the first aid kits to be supplied to each school.
The following items are in demand (taken from 'Anatomy of a First Aid Kit' on www.redcross.org):
-absorbent compress dressings (5 x 9 inches)
-adhesive bandages (assorted sizes)
-adhesive cloth tape (10 yards x 1 inch)
-antibiotic ointment packets (approximately 1 gram)
-antiseptic wipe packets
-packets of aspirin (81 mg each)
-blanket (space blanket)
-breathing barrier (with one-way valve)
-instant cold compress
-nonlatex gloves (size: large)
-hydrocortisone ointment packets (approximately 1 gram each)
-Scissors
-roller bandage (3 inches wide)
-roller bandage (4 inches wide)
-sterile gauze pads (3 x 3 inches)
-Oral thermometer (non-mercury/nonglass)
-triangular bandages
-Tweezers
If you are able to bring any of these supplies with you to Nosara, please drop them off at the Surfing Nosara office, next to Banco Popular in Guiones.
