On Monday, November 30th. We went out to Serapio Lopez Escuela in Nosara (next to the airport) to get an update on the school's progress with the Proyecto Limpieza. This school and its children have been one of the most active participants in the project and we are so grateful for their efforts! When we dropped off the paperwork and guidelines for the project, the kids and La Professora, Margarita, were very excited to get started. They read through the book that we gave them about putting trash in its place and not contaminating the environment, and decided that they, too, wanted to put together a book for us. So, on Monday we dropped by to see what they had prepared, and boy were we impressed! They gave us a couple drawings from the first grade class and a bunch of drawings from the fifth graders. Many of which were great pieces of artwork! The school has a local artist named Manuel who comes by once a week to teach the kids art...wow, has he really had an impact on these children! These fifth graders are very talented little artists! They completed the task at hand with flying colors! So, we will be rewarding the school with their trash cans very soon.
We also gave a big bag of school supplies (notebooks, protractors, Crayons, markers, paper etc.) to La Professora and her class. All of these supplies came from Chris Coppinger and his family from CA who were down here on vacation. They brought down a bunch of school supplies, and Serapio Lopez Escuela received some of them. We will distribute the rest to another local school in the next couple weeks. So, a giant thank you goes out to the Coppinger family for their very generous donations! If anyone would like to bring down supplies while they are here on vacation, we will distribute them to the local schools and bring you along if you would like! If you have any questions about what to bring please feel free to email us at info@surfingnosara.com or visit our Wish List - http://www.surfingnosara.com/surfing-nosara-foundation/project-wishlist.
Again, a big thank you goes out to Sarah Antonson and Alphoso Prado for their efforts in this project and the follow up. Also, to the Inoccent Surf School crew for sponsoring the trash cans.
