Aug. 27th - It's a waist to chest high choppy mess out there!

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

Good morning from Guiones and welcome to the weekend! We have another messy morning out back with waist to chest high storm chop. The tide is super low as well and that isn't helping at all. There are a few small, dumpy sections out there, but they are really hard to find and get into. Peaks are coming in all over the place and there is no distinct spot. Though a little south, past the graveyard it appears to be a bit more dumpy and hollow whereas right in front of the entrance it is a bit softer and more mushy. There were only a couple folks in the water, so if you want to paddle out, the crowd factor is definitely not an issue. The sun is trying to come out and dry up all these rain clouds...we'll see how that shapes up. Hopefully we won't see too much rain today.

It looks like the waves along the Florida and Carolina coasts are going to be real fun today. I saw some dawn patrol shots of St. Auggie and it looks like glassy perfection! Once Irene passes over the OBX, I'm sure there will be some epic barrels and photo evidence to prove it as well. If you are hunkered down on the East Coast or Mid-Atlantic stay safe and get ready to get barreled once things clean up! Have a great weekend!

Pura vida,
Ryan

Aug. 26th - Empty beach, empty lineup, rainy season conditions

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

James here updating Ryan's report with more photos. Photos are a little deceiving today as I just happen to catch a window of semi glassy surf for about an hour before the rain and onshore wind come back. Swing by the office between noon and 4pm each day to check out all the photos and videos. Enjoy the Billabong Pro Teahupoo happening right now, we'll be watching it all day on the big screen...Below is Ryan's Early report...

Good morning folks and happy Friday! We have had a good bit of rain here over the last couple of days, but nothing compared to what the Mid-Atlantic has coming with Irene. That being said, we seem to be in full on rainy season mode right now. It is a cool, overcast morning with small, very mixed up surf. It is in the waist to maybe chest high range, but it is pretty choppy and mixed up with peaks coming in all over the place. There might be a few fun, short sections out there but it is not lining up great at all. It feels like things have definitely slowed down around here as there don't seem to be as many people around, there was almost no one on the beach and only one guy in the water. The parking lot was empty, and the surf definitely isn't going to be getting anyone out of bed that is feeling the effects of the La Banana last night. So, if you feel like getting wet, you'll have it all to yourself right now...there are not even any surf schools on the beach!

If you need anything from us or have any questions regarding the planning of your next Nosara vacation, feel free to email us at info@surfingnosara.com. We'd love to hear from you and we're here to help! Have a great weekend and to those in the path of Irene...please be prepared and stay safe. Then, go hit the surf after she passes over because it is going to be good!

Ryan

Aug. 23rd - Waist to chest high and glassy, but a little mixed up

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

James here updating Ryan's report with more photos. Another fun day to shoot photos as we have a beautiful sunny morning with fun waves, easy conditions for everyone. Swing by the office between noon and 4pm to browse all our photos and videos. Below is Ryan's early report....
Good morning from Guiones! We have another sunny, beautiful morning on the beach here and there is some surf as well. It is in the waist to chest high range and it is pretty glassy. It is a little mixed up though and mushy with the high tide approaching in an hour or so. There are some fun sections out there but you have to be patient. The sand bars have moved around a bit since yesterday too with all the rain and runoff we had last night. So, that it is making it a little more difficult to find the right spot out there. It is a great day for the small wave equipment, i.e. longboards, retro twinnies, mini longboards etc.

It should be another nice day for the most part and then we will probably see some afternoon or evening storms, much like yesterday. We are getting hit by some of the outer bands of Hurricane Irene so expect some more rain tonight. All of us down here are hoping that Irene doesn't bring too much destruction to all of you up there in FL and the Carolinas, but make sure to be prepared because you never know what to expect with these storms during the East Coast Hurricane season...things can change in a matter of hours.

If you need anything or have any questions for us, drop us a line at info@surfingnosara.com. Have a great one!

Sunday August 21st - Beautiful Morning, Waves Not So Great

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

Good Morning Everyone,

It looks like we're on a couple day roll of having mediocre to not so great surf... That generally means one of 2 things: It is about to get good really soon &/or the meat of the rainy season is approaching. Although the past couple off weeks we have not had huge rains we all know it is right around the corner with August drawing to a close & September/October upon us. In the meantime, get out there & enjoy this beautiful weather & clear water we're having. Probably overall weather wise the best August we've had in past couple years. Water clarity is great right now, still people in town and things to do. Wind will probably start turning mid morning so if you're able I'd say get on it even though high tide is upon us.

On the forecast: It looks like this week is lining up for the most part with shorter period swells so keep your expectations on the lower side. There will still for sure be surfable waves & some fun ones but it is not going to be epic. Stay tuned though because the one thing we know about this place is it is super consistent & things are always changing. We'll be here to keep you posted & bring footage of the day's action.

Have a great day,
Rich
