October 2nd - Bigger Surf, Closing Out On The Sets Early

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

Mid Morning Update: Size dropped & choppiness came up. There are some pretty good size but overall not the greatest form. Pretty decent lag time between sets but still some overhead waves out there. Just have to be in the right spot at the right time.

Good Morning Everyone,

Swell has really picked up & we have well overhead sets coming through... Kind of crazy & not very good on the biggest waves at moment. The mid sized ones with good form are where it is at but to get those you might have to take a couple of the bigger ones on the head. The lead in photo is one of the mid sized waves & as you can see it looks pretty attractive. Check out all the other photos though so you can see the bigger ones coming through which may look great for a second but most of them close out. My prediction for the day is mid morning improvement after the tide starts dropping back out... Let's cross our fingers & hope the wind doesn't come up too early. With a little bit of luck we're going to have some solid, fun surf throughout the morning.

The good news at moment is there is time between the sets to paddle out so you should be AOK in getting out there unless you just have bad luck & catch one of the big sets on the head. Happens to all of us sometimes.

Have a good morning,
Rich

Wednesday October 5th - Swell Is Starting To Show; Morning Sickness Early

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

Good Morning,

Today we're off to a pretty poor start & Cristian's photo pretty much sums up our early morning conditions with both weather and waves. The very positive is the swell is showing a little bit ahead of schedule as there are already head high + sets out there. If a swell shows a little early it is generally a good indicator it is going to be a be strong swell. The challenge we're facing this morning is a very strong case of morning sickness from all of the clouds and rain in the area. Sleep in or relax & wait a couple of hours to see if things start lining up a little bit more & conditions can improve.

The winds have been turning around 9am or so but not all that bad... Definitely wait at least till mid morning and let's see how things pan out. Gear up for the evening session or tomorrow morning... The swell is definitely rolling in & there is going to be some solid action out there.

Can't wait till our photographer James gets back from vacation!

Have a good day,
Rich

Monday, October 3rd - Very Small, Clean Surf With Offshore Winds Early

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

Good Morning Everyone,

We have a beautiful morning on hand here in Guiones with light offshore winds and very small surf breaking close to shore with our high tide peaking just before 7am. I would give it a little while to let some water back off before heading out there. At moment as you can see in the early report pictures it is pretty much clean little lines rolling in with most of them only breaking on the inside. But there is a tiny bump out there & once the tide backs out some the size should improve. Hopefully the wind will not turn too soon & we can have yet another fun session in the peak of the rainy season.

No worries though either way as we have a strong swell with a good angle for Guiones heading our way later this week. Let's hope the weather cooperates a bit. If we can have beautiful mornings like this one with light offshore winds with this upcoming swell it will pretty much be paradise here. Don't want to get ahead of myself too much though as it is October & any moment the bottom could fall out with rain.

Cross your fingers & we'll keep you posted!

**HUGE thanks to Yesenia, Aimee, Diego, Clayton, & Jaime for their efforts in re-building the palapa at the beach which most everyone uses & Iglesia del Mar meets at on Sunday mornings. Yesenia was the general contractor chopping palm fronds & directing construction, Aimee was the demolition crew for the old palapa, Diego & his pimp ride was the deliveryman. THANKS!

Remember there is a canned food drive going on for potential flood victims going on. You can drop off canned goods at Surfing Nosara office or NOVA construction office.

Have a good day,
Rich

Friday September 30th - Fading Swell But Still Some Fun Ones Out There

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

***Late Morning Update: Conditions really changed from the initial report around 7:15am... Starting just before 8am the winds from the north came up quite a bit but fortunately so did the surf. Some updated photos of the locals tearing it up out there taken courtesy of Mariju & Hanzel since James is out of town. Rains are rolling in for the afternoon as I type this around 11:15, let's hope for an evening glass off session. Super good vibes all around today it is really a great time to be here right now. Town is quiet, everyone is friendly & enjoying the overall fun surf during the peak of the rainy season. Cross your fingers for October providing some fun surf as you never really know what you're going to get sometimes this time of year.

Good Morning Everyone,

After a night full of thunderstorms we have a beautiful morning with small, clean waves breaking out front. Size is running knee to stomach high at moment with calm winds every so slightly blowing side shore. The wind is going to be our X factor as to if we're going to have a super fun longboard session this morning or not. Yesterday could still ride shortboards but for any bigger guys it was pushing it a little bit. There wasn't a great many sections to generate significant speed. Today I'd definitely say bring out the bigger equipment.

I'm so pumped to get out there & try out this older school Dewey Weber 'Stylist' in some smaller surf that we just picked up. I didn't think would be possible to really get a good feel for it till November/December but I might be in luck today so I'm typing pretty quick.

One of the beautiful things about riding all different types of equipment is any time a swell arrives or fades away you get to ride something different. One of my favorite things about living here is so many different faces to the wave at Guiones... From epic little longboard waves for noseriding to the bigger stuff on occasion.

Have a great day,
Rich

Thursday September 29th - Cloudy Early, Fading Swell But Still Something To Be Had

Nosara Costa Rica Surf Report

Good Morning Everyone,

This morning we are facing cloudy skies and a fading out swell. The past couple mornings have been really fun and had some pretty good sections. The locals have been out putting on a show and has been really fun to watch. Cristian and I were standing around debating what type of board to ride a little bit later. Kind of a tougher call as the waves have been surprisingly good after the tide turns with some punch to it. Normally it is kind of a 'get out there quickly before the wind switches onshore' but the past several days waves been improving mid to late morning. Wind is bouncing around from onshore to side-shore to offshore & if you wait it out you'll get some really fun waves.

It looks like the next couple of days might bring some more typical rainy season type surf. This has been a great September overall and it is nice having some people & some action in town. Let's cross our fingers for some luck as we head into October! We might be kicking off mid to late to next week with a really strong swell. Too far out to be sure but we'll keep you posted.

This high season is filling up nicely & if you're thinking of making a trip down just send us an email & we'll set you up with the best deals on rental houses, condos or hotels. Or if you just have any general questions on the area feel free to ask: info@surfingnosara.com
