It s about a 4 and a half hour drive from San Jose capital city of Costa Rica and the town of Tambor which is located on the southern end of the Nicoya peninsula It s always best to drive to anywhere in Costa Rica in the daytime especially if you are new to the country To find Tambor you ll drive to Puntarenas and then take a ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya to a town called Paquera and drive from there to Tambor It may seem like a hassle compared to the 25 40 minutes it would take if you took a plane there but the scenery is wonderful Real estate in Tambor Costa Rica will be much easier to view if you drive a car there of course so that decision is up to you Another reason to drive during the day and leave as early as possible is that the ferry across the Gulf takes about two hours so you ll want to arrive in good time not to miss one
