Surf Synopsis

What’s up everybody!! Austin here with Wednesday May 16’s update!  The mix of S-SSW swell continues as we start nearing the rainy season.  Swell size should be moderate through the weekend with some plus size sets.  Size backs down some early to mid-next week

The Forecast

The mix of S-SSW (180-200) should have a few more pulses to keep the surf going in the overhead to a couple feet overhead range through the end of the week, possibly a little bigger at stand out breaks this weekend.  As of right now we're looking at new 18-second pulses peaking Friday and Saturday, with the biggest surf for the next week.  Size backs off through the first part of next week.  WInds might start to turn more onshore by the end of the week, and maybe even ramp up a little bit by the end of the weekend.

Looking further out there could be another pulse of S (180-190) mid to late next week, but its not looking like anything too special.  Should be enough to keep waist to head high surf in the water though at stand out spots.

Mid-range models (60-120 hours out) are showing the region E-SE of New Zealand starting to wake up.  A complex low could produce a couple small to moderate swells out of the SW (220-230) for late next week into next weekend.  These guys aren't looking super awesome but could produce some 16-second swell with chest to overhead+ surf at the stand out breaks for next weekend.  The first pulse is due to arrive on Friday followed by a bit more substantial one on Saturday.

Beyond that, the long-range models (160-180 hours out) are showing another strong low making its way out from under New Zealand with a better trajectory than the first couple.  This could generate enough fetch to produce seas in the 30-35 foot range with decent trajectory.  Its still too early to call, but my calculations show possibly some new swell from the SW (215-225) for the first week of June. Stay tuned.
