Surf Synopsis

What’s up everybody!! Austin here with Wednesday May 22's update! Swell should remain solid through the end of the week, but next week things are going to quiet down a little bit.  Long-range models aren't looking all that exiting, but it's still the start of the season so things can't stay small for too long.  Read more for details...

The Forecast

We're seeing another SW (210-225) building today combating the fall of the big SW we saw over the weekend.  Wave heights should be running chest to head high with some bigger sets still rolling through in the overhead to overhead+ range.  Wave heights should top out Thursday, before slowly backing off through the weekend.

The last and final pulse of this swell chain should start building on Friday with periods around 18-seconds.  This last one was from a more zonal system, but it was also a bit more SSW (200-210) so we could continue to see chest to head high+ waves through the end of the weekend.

Wave heights will slowly back down through the first half of next week.  There is a small system coming together over the next 48 hours south of Tahiti that could bring another fun pulse mid to late next week.  As of right now its not looking all that great, but as the system pulls out of its zonal track south of the Pitcairn Islands it gains some strength and could generate seas in the 30 to 35 foot range with a fair NE trajectory.  The small S-SSW (185-200) should start building with 18 to 19-seconds next Wednesday.  Wave heights are looking small to moderate, but the angle is pretty good and won't be impeded by the Galapagos as badly as recent pulses.  This could mean chest to overhead waves for the second half of next week.

After that the swell window is pretty slow, with no big favorable systems moving through it. There is some storm energy on the long-range models out near New Zealand, but constancy run to run hasn't been very good.  I'll continue to monitor this energy and update my other forecasts with any new updates.  Check in with those until next Wednesday when I update here.
