Over the last 10 years the Guiones/Nosara area has really grown to become an amazing expat community. Growing opportunities available for children have allowed more and more families to live in this small paradise.
Recently, one of these opportunities for children is education. Our newest pre-school, Nosara Kids University, offers a private and affordable bilingual education. Nosara Kids University is truly a dream come true for Milagros Gallegos, the head administrator who has a strong background in bilingual education and science. Teamed with her longtime friends Marcia Solano and Giovanna Macaya, owners of the first Kids University in Escazu, they decided to open a branch that offers high educational standards supported by proven teaching methods. They developed these principals after teaching for decades and have been successfully applying them over the last 9 years at Kids University in Escazu. Based on the Piaget Theory, the Multiple Intelligences (linguistic, mathematical logic, spatial, musical, physical, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalistic) young children develop a strong foundation to thrive and succeed in their future education.
In addition, following the Kids U methodology, planning, programs and activities, Milagros also wants to immerse the children into the community. They integrate different activities with trained professionals in kids yoga, art, music and dance. In addition, the children participate by sponsoring King Louie, a monkey from the Nosara Wildlife Rescue, and attend local community events to support the program’s core values.
Currently, they offer three levels of schooling, Nursery II, Infants and Pre-Kinder, which goes up to age six. All of these levels are bilingual in both Spanish and English. They also offer daily and weekly options to accommodate people here on vacation. Also, a healthy menu designed by a child nutritionist provides a balanced day.
To continue providing a well-rounded educational service for the community, Milagros also heads up Semillas del Mundo, a full day bilingual educational center that is dedicated to academic achievement, developing critical thinking and creative minds.
The education is designed with hands on, research and inquiry based learning that promotes investigative thinking and connects to meaningful discoveries for enjoyable learning. They will also encourage the kids to interact within the community, to be active and responsible citizens, which will reinforce their values, including community service hours within the local Nosara community.
Semillas del Mundo will open in the beginning of October and run a full year ending in July. They offer classes for kids ages six to twelve, or first grade to eighth grade, with a small student:teacher ratio 10:1. This academic learning center offers classes with a 50/50 Spanish and English ratio in all core subjects (Math, Science, Language Arts Social Studies receiving). In addition, physical and fine arts will also be part of the curriculum and all courses will abide by BOTH Costa Rican and US academic standards.
Both Kids University and Semillas del Mundo have opened doors for many local residents wanting a highly qualified bilingual educational option for their children.
